MIXING 

£80 / Track

I will provide a full mixdown of your track(s) including:

Pre-Mixing

I will provide some basic editing including timing correction, pitch correction and editing out silence. This is called mix prep and aims to clean up the tracks so that the best audio quality can be brought forward. 

Frequency Processing

I will have two goals when using an equalizer on your tracks; corrective and creative goals. Corrective EQing will include removing acoustic anomalies such as resonant frequencies, removing boomy low-end and any other aspects of the frequency spectrum that does not inherently increase the quality of the signal. Creative EQing will include boosts and cuts that complement the tracks and allow them to fit together, which is called "pocket EQing".

Dynamic Processing

Dynamic processing is perhaps the most crucial step in the mixing process. Dynamic processing includes any plugins that reduce and manipulate the dynamic range of the individual tracks. These are typically compressors, saturators and limiters. Compression and limiting will boost the dynamic range of your tracks so that they are more audible, consistent and punchy. The use of saturation aims to give your tracks an analogue rounded edge that makes them more pleasing to listen to. 

Time-Based Processing

Time-based processing will involve the use of reverbs and delays to enhance the spacial aspects of your song. Recordings usually start off as what is called "dry", which can feel lifeless. Using enough reverb can make these dry tracks more interesing and pleasing to listen to. Likewise, delays provide an extra layer of depth to your song which beefs up the individual tracks. 

Stereo Field and Automation

When mixing your music, I will be utilising the stereo field to create width in your music. I will aim to create a wide mix that is also mono-compatible, as many speakers still reproduce audio in mono. Automation will include manipulating the volume of the individual tracks as well as many variables on plugins. Automation can create movement and life in your tracks, as this allows the music to get louder during the chorus, or for compression to ease off the drums, or an equalizer to allow a vocal to be more crisp in the verses, etc. 

Mix Bus Processing

A small amount of mix bus processing will be applied to offset any frequency anomalies and to give your track some glue before the mastering process. 

- Throughout the mixing process I take regular breaks to ensure I do not fatigue my ears, which would cause certain frequencies in the audio spectrum to be less apparent, which in turn causes engineers to make incorrect decisions. I also listen to reference music to ensure that my mixing stays on track with regard to the standards in the real world.

- All mixes are guaranteed to be mixed to a minimum of -14 LUFS, which is the standard for Spotify. I will also usually push the dynamic range of your track above this to give you a slight edge in terms of loudness over other bands and artists on the platform. 

MASTERING

I will provide a full master of your track(s) including:

EQ processing to shape and enhance tonal balance, dynamic processing to ensure consistent loudness, time-based processing for subtle depth and dimension, and stereo field processing to create a wide, immersive track. I will also add saturation and other processing where deemed necessary!

I will treat every track with the upmost care and consideration, from refining the frequency spectrum to ensuring clarity across all playback systems. RECORDING

Field Recording

Do you have a project where you need to record audio on the go? Whether it be a string quartet in a reverberant room, or an ambient recording project in a forest, I can cover the needs required to record! This can cover a range of different scenarios so please enquire so that we can discuss the nature of the project. 

Practice Room Recording

For bands, a budget friendly way to record is to hire out a practice space! This bypasses the need for an expensive studio and allows us to take our time with what you'd like to record. 

Note:

For both Field and Practice Room Recording services, only 8 microphones/channels can be recorded at one time. This is enough to facilitate a drumkit on its own, or a few instruments with vocals.

Equipment such as microphones, stands and cables will need to be hired out, for which I will give suggestions for suitable microphones and take responsibility of the hiring, picking up and dropping off.

Services are available anywhere in the central belt, including Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Studio Recording

I offer comprehensive, professional studio recording services that couldn't make the recording process easier for you! I have conducted numerous sessions and I am proficient with modern day recording practices. The rate below includes a prior consultation session of what you would like to record, track names, BPMs, demos and backing tracks. We can discuss what you would like your tracks to sound like and what we can do to achieve a sound that closely resembles. Getting good recordings is the important step in music production, and so I will also encourage good performances!

£120/day + Studio Dry Hire Costs (typically £300/day) + Travel Costs
